DMX announces his new artist, Word One being on his Bloodline label.
DMX makes a surprise call-in for his new artist, "Word One" during a Magic 105 interview with DJ Ricky T.
Los Angeles born Word One flew clear across the nation to be raised in New York. He can be considered a vet in the game with a career spanning over a decade beginning in 1993. His biggest inspiration is his mother but he also pulls a great deal of influence from fellow lyricist such as Rakim, Wu-Tang, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Eminem, and DMX. His philosophy is that music can be made for average, working-class individuals and doesn't always have to be about balling, trapping, sex, or other nonsense. Real-life, relatable situations are his teachings and class is in session. Word One will be dropping the Best of Freestyles: Vol 3
(Ruff Ryder Edition) in February of 2015 in celebration of him being singed to work with DMX. His first single was entitled “Hocus Pocus” from the album "Journey To Nowhere" which dropped in 2011 during his eighth year as an artist, also eight years after his fist edition of his solo mixtape brand: Best of Word One prides himself on being one of the most versatile artist in rap music. He can kill a southern track, or go fast or chopper style with artists like Rittz, or Bone who are among just some of the national names he’s worked with. Others include Dorrough, Lil Rue, and Fat Pimp from the South. Of course he is currently
locked in with one of the masters from the East coast, DMX. However, Word One has done tracks all the way The man can harmonize on tracks & do songs where he barely raps on it at all. Word One can be described more accurately as a lyricist. Has even had the blessings of opening for Destiny's Child, Lil Jon, DMX,
Diamond, Princess, Trina, Trick Daddy, Fat Joe, Project Pat, Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, Do or Die, Goodie Mob, Bone Thugs N Harmony, French Montana, Mr Cee, Fatman Scoop, KRS 1, and more.
Word One is capable of making catchy hooks and dope singles. He proclaims, “I don't like any two records of As far as his life and career it has always been the story of coming from the bottom. “I've done prison time”, he reveals. So it’s safe to say his music is created by and for the "Underdogs". He’s been broke to the point of living in a 1 bedroom shack in Juarez, Mexico and has hit rock bottom repeatedly. He admits, “Since coming home from this last prison stretch; all I've heard is people telling me how I can't make it or won't make it or what I can and can't do.” So Word One is steadfast in achieving his mission to prove them wrong. He is the leader of the #UnderdogMovement because he feels that he is one and always will be. Word One confidently declares, “When I make it to the top my fellow Underdogs will feel as if they made it with me! Freestyles: Vol 1 which debuted back in 2003 back out west coast rocking with greats like Kid Frost, E-40, and B-Legit.
In his own words about signing with DMX I was on tour with DMX. Through the tour, I caught the attention of X and his Manager. DMX, of course, put
me on the spot and asked me to spit a hot 16. I did and he was impressed. The next night; he had me spit more verses with him over some beats of his. He liked what he heard. By the end of the tour, we built a bond and his manager offered to manage me as well. A couple months after that, I was asked to come to Houston
with X for Summer Fest. When X arrived to the trailer at the venue we spoke and he asked me how things were going with my career. After I told him, he stated that whatever I had going on, he wanted to be part of it.
I asked if that meant being on Bloodline and he said yes. Right then and there he told me what kind of deal he was offering and I was happy with it. Our manager brought me into the Ruff Ryder family himself, since he Currently Word One is pushing: "Act Up" Produced by Jasdeep found on his last mixtape "2 Feet and a
